The number "988" in white ink appears on recto of the image in what may be the hand of Antoin Sevruguin. This number also appears in the same location on the albumen print of this image contained in the C.R. Smith archive in the V&A museum collection (see below).
The postcard itself is titled "2005. Les Executions Capitales en Perse" and also has the following description by J. H. Depose on recto: " Apres la pendaison le corps est expose surune plate-forme, les indigenes defilent devant le cadavre"

Smith archive, photographed by Antoin Sevruguin, assembled in Sultanabad (modern Arak), Iran, 1895 - 1900. The album for part of the V&A Museum collection.
